R. R. Mehta College of Science & C. L. Parikh College of Commerce, Palanpur is a premier college in Banaskantha district. It is managed by Banaskantha District Kelavani Mandal, Palanpur. It is affiliated to Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University, Patan. It is recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC).

Banaskantha district was honored by the State Government with the award of Rs. 3 Lacs in 1964 in recognition of its fruitful performance in the Small Saving Scheme of Gujarat State Government. Education was a far cry of the toiling illiterate lot in the district. The leading enlightened educationists took a wise decision to invest this amount to start higher education institute in the district. Thus, the Arts College began in 1964 and Science College in 1965 on the rented premises. Commerce faculty was added in 1979.

The influx of the students however was too great in number to accommodate. In 1983, the construction of the new building began. In 1986, Arts and Commerce faculties were shifted to the new building. After raising the laboratory and other facilities, the Science faculty too was shifted to the new building from the rented premises. In its initial stages, District Panchayat, Taluka Panchayat and Municipality donated funds. The Diamond rich Palanpuri Jain families came forward with huge donations. Thus, the funds were raised to realize the dreams of the youngsters for higher education. Our College has created its own identity because of excellent teaching environment, rich library and dedicated staff.


The college has earned for itself a wide recognition and a sound reputation in Gujarat. In the last five years, 25 students of the college have secured the top 10 positions at the university level examinations. The teaching staff of the college is dedicated and has played a major role in preparing the students to succeed.

The college encourages students to participate in cocurricular activities and provides a platform to young and energetic students in sports. Students from the college have consistently excelled In all types of games and sports regularly securing first, second and third positions at national, state and inter-university level competitions.

Students have also secured ranking positions in the national level Vivekananda Essay Competition, New Delhi. All those who participated in the University Youth Festival in the last five years have secured the first three positions. Students also take part in Oral and Poster Presentation competitions at the state and national level; and in seminars and conferences.

A large number of students participated in the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi; and have participated in adventure camps etc.

The Science College also organises blood donation camps; conducts AIDS/ HIV and female foeticide awareness campaigns; thalassemia awareness campaigns; and holds a Driving License Camp for students.

The Science College celebrates National Science Day annually, in February. This year it was organised under the auspices of ISRO, Ahmedabad. Distinguished scientists and engineers from ISRO presented insightful details of the working models and provided very useful information about the miniature models of MOM, RISAT, OCM, Aryabhatt, SROSS, PSLV, and GSLV which were displayed to the students. A Mars Mission documentary movie also proved to be highly motivating and insightful. The college is renowned in Gujarat. In the last five years, 24 students from the college secured top 10 positions in the university examinations.

Students of the college have also secured first, second and third positions in national, state and inter-university games and various competitions like Youth Festival, Rangoli, Poster Making, Spot-Painting, Cartooning, Classical Music and Sugam Sangeet competitions.

The college organises blood donation camps, AIDS/HIV and female foeticide awareness campaigns, Thalassemia awareness drives and organises a Driving License Camp for students.
